Which DPF service does your Kia need
Most Kias that come to us with a DPF light need a clean rather than a new filter. £275 fixed covers the chemical flush, whether it's described as a clean or a repair; they're the same process. Replacement is only worth considering once a filter is physically cracked or melted, not simply blocked with soot, and even then an aftermarket part fitted independently usually beats a dealer quote (see our replacement cost comparison).
How Kia diesels get used
A lot of the Kias we see are working cars rather than weekend ones: a Ceed or Optima on PCO plates doing airport runs and short private-hire jobs, a Carens or Sportage doing the school run and a supermarket trip most days, a Sorento towing or doing the family motorway run at the weekend but sitting on the drive through the week. That mix of short urban legs and occasional long runs is exactly the pattern that catches a DPF out, since the CRDi engines across the range need a sustained spell above motorway speed to burn off the soot the short trips build up.
High-mileage PCO cars in particular rack up the miles fast but rarely get the sustained run their DPF actually needs, which is why a Ceed or Optima on private hire plates is a regular booking for us.
What changes after the clean
Warning light off, power restored, no more limp mode cutting a shift short on a Ceed or Optima doing private hire work. The filter flows properly again, fault codes clear, and the vehicle goes back on the road the same visit. For a PCO driver paid by the job or a family relying on a Sorento for the school run, that's the difference between a lost day of earnings and a normal drive home.
