Hyundai DPF cleaning
£275 once, or a dealer bill running into four figures for a Tucson or Santa Fe filter that was probably never broken. Mobile chemical flush, we come to you, across Greater Manchester. Call 0161 694 7331.
The replacement bill on a Hyundai
A new DPF from a Hyundai dealer is not a small bill. On the larger D4HB 2.2 fitted to the Santa Fe, an OEM filter fitted at a dealer typically runs to £1,200 to £1,500 or more once labour is added; the smaller D4FD 1.7 and D4FB 1.6 units in the i20, i30 and Tucson are usually a little cheaper to source. Independents can often manage the aftermarket part for £800 to £1,000 fitted, well under half a dealer quote.
The honest split: a blocked Hyundai filter, one simply carrying more soot than the ECU wants to see, responds to a chemical clean at £275. A physically cracked or melted filter doesn't. The two look identical from the driver's seat, warning light, reduced power, sometimes limp mode, which is exactly why a dealer quoting for a new filter without checking which one you've got is worth a second opinion.
Clean, repair, replace or delete
| Option | Typical cost | What it fixes | Road-legal? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean/repair | £275 fixed | Clears a soot blockage | Yes |
| Replacement | £800 to £1,500+ fitted | Needed only if the filter is physically cracked or melted | Yes |
| Delete | Call to discuss | Removes the DPF from the software permanently | No |
Cleaning is the right first call for a Hyundai filter that's blocked rather than damaged, which covers most of what we see across the i20, i30, ix35, Kona, Santa Fe and Tucson range. Replacement only becomes necessary once a filter has physically failed. Hyundai and Kia share much of their CRDi engine range, so see our Kia DPF cleaning hub if you're weighing up a Sportage or Sorento alongside a Tucson or Santa Fe. For the full breakdown, see our replacement cost comparison.
Hyundai models and engines
i20 (2008 onward)
1.1 and 1.4 CRDi. The smallest-displacement engine in the range, and the quickest to show a DPF light on short school-run driving.
i30 (2007 onward)
1.4 and 1.6 CRDi, U2 family. A high-mileage family hatchback with a long production run and a wide spread of ages on the road.
ix35 (2010 to 2015)
1.7 CRDi D4FD, 2.0 CRDi D4HA. Hyundai's SUV before the Tucson name returned, still common on the road around Manchester.
Kona (2018 to 2019)
1.6 CRDi. A single generation, single engine on this list, so the fault record is thin.
Santa Fe (2012 onward)
DM 2.2 CRDi D4HB and 2.0 CRDi D4HA, TM 2.2 CRDi D4HB then Smartstream 2.2 from the November 2020 facelift. The largest SUV in the range, and the model where a dealer replacement quote runs highest.
Tucson (2015 onward)
1.6, 1.7 and 2.0 CRDi across two generations. Hyundai's best-seller in this list, and the one we quote for most often.
What happens on the day
We come to the vehicle wherever it's parked, run a diagnostic to confirm the soot load and any stored codes, then introduce the cleaning agent through the DPF's existing service ports. A controlled engine sequence works the agent through the substrate, followed by a differential pressure check to confirm flow has been restored. Codes are cleared and the warning light is off before we leave. The whole visit takes roughly 90 minutes, and the filter never comes off the car.
