What is the Manchester Clean Air Zone?
The Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone is a defined area within the city where vehicle emission standards are enforced. Vehicles that do not meet the required standard are charged a daily fee to enter the zone.

Euro 6 is the current diesel emissions standard, which applies to most diesel cars manufactured from 2015 onwards. If your diesel car was registered before 2015, and in some cases after, depending on when it was manufactured, it may fall below the Euro 6 threshold and be subject to the daily charge.
Why your DPF matters for CAZ compliance
The DPF is a core component of what makes a diesel engine Euro 6 compliant. Euro 6 sets strict limits on particulate matter emissions, the type of pollutant a DPF specifically controls.
A diesel vehicle that has had its DPF removed cannot meet Euro 6 standards, regardless of engine age. Removing the DPF effectively makes the vehicle non-compliant and subject to daily CAZ charges, as well as MOT failure and potential DVSA fines, which are separate issues.
A blocked DPF presents a different but related problem. A filter that is so heavily loaded it can no longer do its job may cause your vehicle to emit particulate matter above legal limits, which can affect compliance with both the CAZ emissions check and the annual MOT emissions test.
