The replacement bill on an Optima
A new DPF for an Optima isn't a small purchase. An aftermarket filter fitted independently typically runs to £800 to £1,000, while an OEM part fitted at a dealer can reach £1,200 to £1,500 or more once labour is added. That's before the car sits off the road while the part is ordered in.

Cleaning is the right first call for an Optima whose filter is blocked rather than damaged, and that covers most of the faults we see. The sole diesel engine fitted across the Optima's UK production run. Shares its underlying D4FD family with several other Kia and Hyundai models, which means its DPF and regen behaviour is well documented. No additive fluid, so recovery from a blockage depends on driving conditions rather than a fluid top-up, and a car used mainly for shorter journeys loads soot faster than one that gets regular longer runs.

What happens on the day
