How the A6 gets used
The A6 splits fairly evenly between two kinds of owner: the exec car doing the run into Manchester and back on a mostly steady commute, and the private hire or PCO vehicle stacking up pickups and drops across a shift. Both cover plenty of miles over a year, but the miles themselves aren't the whole story.
What matters to the filter is how many of those miles come in short, low-load stretches: crawling through city traffic between fares, idling at a rank waiting for the next job, or a series of cold starts before the engine and exhaust have properly warmed through. An A6 that logs a high annual mileage but rarely holds a sustained, higher-speed run can still block a filter, because it's the pattern of each individual journey that decides whether a regen completes, not the total distance covered.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes out, the flat spot under acceleration disappears, and the car stops dropping into limp mode mid-shift. Exhaust flow through the filter is restored, the fault codes are cleared, and the A6 goes back on the road the same visit. For a private hire driver or exec user who can't afford the car sitting idle at a garage, that's the practical outcome: one visit, filter working properly again, no van left overnight.
A6 engines we cover
C7 (2011 to 2018): 2.0 TDI EA189, then EA288 from 2014/2015, 3.0 TDI EA897
The EA189 four-cylinder is the more common fault engine of the two, catching a run of short trips more readily than the larger V6. The 3.0 TDI EA897's higher exhaust temperature under load makes it somewhat more resistant to blocking on mixed driving, but city-centre PCO work still catches it out.
C8 (2018 onward): 40 TDI EA288 evo, 45/50 TDI EA897 evo
