Which DPF service does your Santa Fe need
Most Santa Fe DPF faults are a soot blockage rather than a broken filter, so a chemical clean, or repair, the same service under a different name, at £275 fixed is usually the right first call. How the Santa Fe gets used
A large seven-seat SUV like the Santa Fe tends to live two lives. There's the longer motorway run to visit family or tow a trailer, and there's the everyday reality of school pick-ups, supermarket trips and short local journeys that make up most of the mileage in between. The diesel engines are more than capable of a proper regen on the motorway leg, but a Santa Fe that spends most of its week on short local runs never gets that chance often enough.
The car's size and weight mean the engine works a little harder at low speed than a smaller SUV would, which doesn't help the soot problem. Cold starts and short journeys with the engine barely up to temperature are the pattern that fills the filter fastest.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes off, power returns to normal, and any hesitation under load or limp mode disappears. The filter flows properly again and regenerates as designed on a normal mix of driving, including the shorter local trips that caused the problem in the first place. The Santa Fe is back on the road the same visit.
Santa Fe engines we cover
DM, 2012 to 2018: 2.2 CRDi D4HB and 2.0 CRDi D4HA
The DM generation was offered with either the larger 2.2 or the smaller 2.0 diesel. Both store the same P2463 and P2002 fault codes once soot passes the ECU's threshold, and neither uses an additive fluid to assist regeneration.
TM, 2018 onward: 2.2 CRDi D4HB, later Smartstream 2.2 from the November 2020 facelift
The current generation carries the 2.2 diesel through most of its run, with a newer Smartstream version introduced at the November 2020 facelift. Both respond to the same chemical clean process.
