Which DPF service does your Kona need
Most Kona DPF faults are a soot blockage rather than a broken filter, so a chemical clean, or repair, the same service under a different name, at £275 fixed is usually the right first call. How the Kona gets used
The Kona sells mainly as a family runabout and a commuter car, and both jobs tend to fill a week with the same kind of driving: short trips into town, school pick-ups, a supermarket run, rarely a stretch of sustained motorway speed. The 1.6 CRDi engine needs that kind of run to get the exhaust hot enough for a full regen cycle, and a Kona doing mostly local miles seldom gets it.
A few owners use the Kona for a longer daily commute, and those cars tend to fare better simply because the drive itself does some of the work a short-hop pattern can't. Either way, the mechanical cause is the same: low load, low speed and cold starts fill the filter with soot faster than the engine can burn it back off unaided.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes off, power returns to normal, and any flat spot or limp mode disappears. The filter flows properly again and regenerates as designed on a normal mix of driving. The Kona is back on the road the same visit, with no parts removed and no trip to a garage.
