Hyundai ix35 DPF cleaning
Warning light after a week of short school runs and supermarket trips, power dropping off soon after. On an ix35 that's usually soot rather than damage. Mobile chemical flush at your location, £275.
Why the ix35 keeps flagging a DPF fault
The ix35's diesel engines are well suited to a longer commute or a regular motorway run, but a large share of these cars spend most of their week doing exactly the opposite: local shopping trips, school runs, short journeys around town with the engine barely warm before it's switched off again. That pattern doesn't give the DPF the sustained exhaust heat it needs to burn off soot in the background, so the warning light is usually the first sign something's building up.
Push on without addressing it and the ix35 typically pulls power back within a day or two, often settling into a low gear with the revs capped and acceleration noticeably flat. That's limp mode, and by the time it shows, the filter has usually been quietly loading for weeks rather than days.
Both the 1.7 CRDi D4FD and 2.0 CRDi D4HA store P2463 once the modelled soot load passes its threshold, and P2002 if filter efficiency has already started to fall. Neither engine uses an additive fluid, so recovery depends entirely on driving conditions rather than a fluid top-up.
ix35 engines and DPF fault codes
1.7 CRDi D4FD, 2010 to 2015
The smaller of the two diesel options, and the one we see most often with an early DPF fault on cars used mainly for short journeys. Lower exhaust output means less margin before soot builds past the threshold.
2.0 CRDi D4HA, 2010 to 2015
The larger unit, shared more widely across the Hyundai and Kia SUV range. Slightly better placed to shift soot on a longer run, but a mostly-urban ix35 still blocks over time.
Both engines are covered by the £275 clean. See our full Hyundai range we cover.
What a chemical flush fixes on an ix35
The clean answers exactly the problem above: soot and ash that a regen cycle never got hot enough or long enough to burn off on a mostly short-journey car. The cleaning agent breaks the deposits down inside the filter, the filter stays fitted throughout, and once flow through the substrate is restored, the stored fault codes clear and the warning light goes out.
Clean, repair, replacement or delete on an ix35
Repair is simply the search term some owners use; it's the same £275 chemical-flush service as a clean, priced and carried out identically, so there's no separate line item to pay for. Replacement only makes sense if the filter is physically cracked or melted, typically £800 to £1,000 fitted aftermarket or £1,200 to £1,500-plus for an OEM part at a dealer, see our replacement cost comparison.
