The replacement bill on an i30

A new DPF for an i30 isn't a small purchase. An aftermarket filter fitted independently typically runs to £800 to £1,000, while an OEM part fitted at a dealer can reach £1,200 to £1,500 or more once labour is added. That's before factoring in the time the car spends off the road while parts are ordered in.

What most garages don't lead with is that the majority of blocked i30 filters are dirty rather than damaged. A chemical clean restores flow through a soot-loaded filter for a fraction of the replacement cost, and the filter itself never has to come off the car.

Cleaning is the right first call for an i30 whose filter is blocked rather than damaged, and that covers most of the faults we see. Replacement only becomes necessary once a filter has physically failed and no longer holds together well enough to clean. It doesn't suit a road car carrying a routine fault code, which a clean resolves instead. Repair is simply the search term some owners use; the job itself is the same £275 chemical flush, priced and carried out identically to a clean. See our full replacement cost comparison for more detail.

i30 engines covered

1.4 CRDi, 2007 onward

The smaller of the two diesel options across the i30's production run. Cheaper to replace at a dealer than the 1.6, but no less prone to a soot blockage on short, low-load journeys.

1.6 CRDi, U2 family, 2007 onward

Fitted more widely across the range and shared with several other Hyundai and Kia models. A newer replacement part than the smaller unit, but still a four-figure job at a dealer if the filter has genuinely failed, which is rare compared with a simple blockage.

Both engines share the same U2-family regen strategy and store the same fault codes once a blockage sets in, so the diagnostic process is identical whichever one is fitted to your car. Both are covered by the same £275 fixed clean, whichever you have. See our full Hyundai range we cover.

What happens on the day

We arrive at your home, workplace or wherever the i30 is parked, run a diagnostic to confirm the soot load and stored codes, then introduce the cleaning agent through the DPF's existing service ports. A controlled engine sequence works the agent through the filter, we check the result with a post-clean pressure test, then clear the codes. Roughly 90 minutes from start to finish.

Cost questions on the i30

Why is £275 cheaper than a garage DPF clean on an i30?
We're mobile, so there's no workshop overhead added to the bill, and the fixed price covers the diagnostic, the clean and the post-clean check with nothing added on afterwards.
Is it ever worth going straight to replacement on an i30?
Only if the filter is physically cracked or melted rather than blocked. A diagnostic confirms which one you're dealing with before any money is spent.
Will cleaning definitely avoid a replacement bill on my i30?
In most cases, yes, because most faults are soot blockages rather than physical damage. A filter that's already failed won't respond to a clean, but that's the exception rather than the rule.
Is the price the same whichever engine my i30 has?
Yes. £275 fixed whether it's the 1.4 or the 1.6 CRDi.
Is a DPF delete legal on a road-going vehicle?
No. DPF delete is for off-road, track and agricultural use only. It is illegal to delete the DPF on a vehicle used on public roads in the UK, it will fail the MOT, and it can invalidate your insurance. If your vehicle is road-going, our DPF cleaning service is the right option.
