Peugeot 208 DPF cleaning
The 208 was designed to be a city car. Small, nippy, and easy to park, it suits exactly the kind of driving that destroys a diesel particulate filter. If your 208 is displaying a DPF warning light, struggling for power, or sitting in limp mode, the cause is almost certainly a blocked filter, and it is an extremely common problem with this model. We offer a mobile chemical flush service across Greater Manchester at a fixed price of £275, and we come to you.
The core problem: a city car with a diesel filter
Short journeys are the enemy of a DPF. The filter works by trapping soot particles from the exhaust, then burning them off periodically during a process called regeneration. For regeneration to complete successfully, exhaust temperatures need to reach a high enough level, which generally means a sustained run of 15 minutes or more at higher speeds.
The Peugeot 208 is bought and used as a city runaround. Journeys to work, the school run, popping to the shops: these are exactly the trips that keep exhaust temperatures too low for regeneration to finish. Soot builds up over weeks and months until the filter is loaded to the point where the ECU flags a fault.
This is not a sign that something has gone catastrophically wrong. It is a predictable consequence of how the car is used, and it is entirely fixable.
Which engines are covered
The 208 diesel range includes two engines that both sit within the PSA family:
1.4 HDi (DV4 engine): Found in the earlier 208 and predecessor 207. A smaller unit with a more compact DPF, the DV4 can block quickly because its lower exhaust output means regeneration temperatures are harder to achieve even on longer runs.
1.6 HDi (DV6 engine): The more common of the two in the 208 lineup. The DV6 is a widely used PSA diesel and shares the same DPF characteristics as the 308, C3, and several other models in the group's range. It is a dependable engine that suffers from the same urban-driving DPF problem as the rest of the family.
Both engines are fully covered by our mobile chemical flush service.
The Eolys system and why it matters for your 208
PSA engines including the DV4 and DV6 use a fuel-borne additive system called Eolys. A separate tank holds cerium-based fluid, which is automatically dosed into the fuel each time you fill up at the pump. The purpose of Eolys is to reduce the temperature at which soot ignites inside the DPF, giving the filter a better chance of regenerating even in less-than-ideal conditions.
When the Eolys tank runs low, this chemistry stops working. The DPF then requires higher exhaust temperatures than the engine typically produces during normal driving in order to regenerate, making blockage far more likely. Because the Eolys tank is not part of a standard annual service, many 208 owners do not know it exists, let alone that it needs periodic refilling.
If your DPF has been blocking repeatedly or seems to be loading up faster than it should, a depleted Eolys tank may be a contributing factor. We check this as part of our diagnostic assessment and will advise you accordingly.
Signs your 208 DPF needs cleaning
Watch out for the following:
The earlier you address a partial blockage, the better the outcome. A filter at 60 to 70 per cent soot load is straightforward to clean. One that has been left until it is completely blocked is significantly harder to treat, and in some cases cannot be recovered chemically.
How our mobile service works
We travel to your address, whether that is your home, your place of work, or somewhere convenient nearby, anywhere across Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas. Once on site, we connect to the OBD port to read the live soot load percentage and other relevant data. We then apply our chemical cleaning agent directly to the DPF and run a forced regeneration to clear the soot.
The visit normally takes between 45 and 90 minutes. We confirm the result with a post-clean diagnostic before we pack up. The price is £275, fixed, with nothing added on.
