Volvo V60 DPF cleaning
Motorway weekend runs, then a week of short local drops in between. That mix is exactly what catches a V60's filter out, loading it with soot faster than a stop-start commute burns off. Mobile chemical flush at your location, £275. Call 0161 694 7331.
Which DPF service does your V60 need
Most V60s that reach us need a clean, not a new filter. We charge £275 fixed for the chemical flush, whether you call it a clean or a repair, it's the same process either way. Replacement is only worth considering once a filter is physically cracked or melted rather than simply loaded with soot, and even then an aftermarket part fitted independently usually beats a dealer quote (see our replacement cost comparison).
How the V60 gets used
Most V60 estates on the road around Manchester and Stockport do a similar shape of week: a school run, a commute of five or six miles into town, a supermarket trip, repeated most days with the occasional longer drive at the weekend. None of those short legs hold the exhaust hot enough for long enough to complete a proper regen, so the soot a motorway run would burn off just keeps building.
Some owners use the V60's estate practicality for towing or longer family trips, which does help on the occasional long pull, but it's rarely frequent enough on its own to offset a week of short runs either side of it. The filter loads up gradually rather than blocking suddenly, which is why the warning light often catches owners by surprise.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes off, the car pulls cleanly through the rev range again, and limp mode is gone. Fuel economy usually improves too, since a loaded filter makes the engine work harder to push exhaust through it. The filter itself stays on the car throughout; we don't remove it, so there's no gasket work and nothing to reseal. Most V60s are back on the road the same visit, with a post-clean check confirming the pressure readings are back where they should be before we leave.
V60 engines we cover
2.4 five-cylinder D5 (early cars)
Earlier V60s carried Volvo's older five-cylinder diesel before the switch to the newer VEA family in January 2014. No additive fluid, regen relying purely on exhaust temperature.
VEA 2.0 four-cylinder D2, D3, D4 and D5 (2010 onward)
The newer, smaller-displacement VEA engine family covers most of the V60 range from around 2010 onward, spanning the D2 through to the D5. No additive fluid here either. The same family is fitted across the S60, V90, XC60 and XC90; see our Volvo S60 DPF cleaning page if you run one alongside your V60, or our Volvo DPF cleaning hub for the full range.
More than one V60 to sort?
Running more than one V60, or a mixed fleet with a couple of them in it? We can work through several vehicles in one visit at a yard, depot or car park, fitting around shift patterns so nothing is off the job longer than it needs to be. It's £275 per vehicle, and we confirm each registration before the visit.
