Which DPF service does your Auris need
Most Auris owners who call us need a clean rather than a new filter. The chemical flush is £275 fixed, and it is the same job whether you search for a clean or a repair, there is no separate repair process or price. Replacement only makes sense once a filter has physically cracked or melted rather than simply carrying soot, and even then an aftermarket part usually costs less than a dealer quote (compare the figures on our replacement cost page).
How the Auris gets used
Most Auris hatchbacks and estates on the road around Manchester spend their week doing exactly the driving that fills a filter with soot: a short commute, the school run, a supermarket trip, rarely more than fifteen minutes at a time. Neither the 1.4 D-4D nor the 2.0 D-4D gets the exhaust hot enough for long enough on those journeys to complete a proper regen, so the soot a longer drive would burn off keeps building week on week.
Some Auris owners use the car for a longer weekly commute or the odd motorway trip, which helps, but an occasional long run rarely offsets a week of short hops either side of it. The filter loads gradually rather than blocking overnight, so the warning light often appears once the car is already carrying a heavy load of soot, not right at the first sign of trouble.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes off, the car pulls cleanly through the rev range again, and limp mode is gone. Fuel economy usually picks up too, since a loaded filter forces the engine to work harder to push exhaust through it. We do not remove the filter for the flush, so there is no gasket to disturb and nothing to reseal. Most Auris owners are back on the road within a couple of hours, with a post-clean pressure check confirming the filter is flowing properly before we leave.

The smaller of the two Auris diesels is a straightforward, no-additive unit shared with the Yaris and Verso-S. It copes reasonably well with mixed driving but blocks the same way any small-displacement diesel does when it only ever does short runs: P2463 and P2002 are the fault codes we see most often.
2.0 D-4D (1AD-FTV, 2007 to 2018)
The larger 2.0-litre unit, also fitted across the Avensis and Verso range, carries no additive fluid either. It runs hotter under load than the 1.4, which can mean a slightly later warning light, but the same short-run pattern eventually catches it out.
