Which DPF service does your Tarraco need
Most Tarracos that reach us with a DPF warning need a clean, not a new filter. £275 fixed covers the chemical flush, whether described as a clean or a repair; it's the same process. Replacement is only worth considering once the filter substrate is physically cracked or melted rather than simply blocked with soot, and even then an aftermarket part fitted independently usually beats a dealer quote (see our replacement cost comparison).
How the Tarraco gets used
Most Tarracos around Manchester do the same shape of week: the school run twice a day, a supermarket trip, weekend activities for a full car of passengers, rarely a long enough stretch at a steady speed to let the engine complete a proper regen. As the biggest diesel SEAT on UK roads, the Tarraco often carries more weight than a smaller family car too, which the engine works around rather than against, but doesn't change the underlying pattern: short runs mean the exhaust rarely gets hot enough for long enough to burn the accumulated soot off.
A minority of Tarracos also do longer motorway trips for family holidays or longer commutes, and those runs do help keep the filter clear. For most owners, though, the week-to-week pattern is short and local, and that's what tends to bring the DPF warning light on.
What changes after the clean
The warning light goes off, the car pulls cleanly through the rev range again, and limp mode is gone. Fuel economy usually improves too, since a loaded filter makes the engine work harder to push exhaust gas through it. The filter itself stays on the car throughout; we do not remove it, so there's no gasket work and nothing to reseal. Most Tarracos are back on the road the same visit, with a post-clean check confirming the pressure readings are back where they should be before we leave.
