Why the XJ keeps flagging a DPF fault
The X351's 3.0 V6 D was built with sustained motorway cruising in mind, and it copes well when it gets that kind of run regularly. The problem is that a large, comfort-focused saloon like the XJ often does a good share of its miles on shorter journeys, into the city, to appointments, around town, where the exhaust never holds the temperature a full regen cycle needs for long enough.
The dash usually shows a DPF warning light first, sometimes with a slight loss of smoothness under acceleration before anything more obvious happens. Left unaddressed, power typically drops off further within a day or two, settling into a noticeably restricted, low-rev state. That's the car protecting itself once the filter's soot load has built up past what the ECU is comfortable with.
This 3.0 V6 diesel is shared across other Jaguar models of the same era, so its DPF and regen behaviour is well understood at engine-family level even where XJ-specific service records are thinner. It stores P2463 once the modelled soot load passes its threshold, and P2002 if filter efficiency has already started to fall.

What a chemical flush fixes on an XJ
The clean answers exactly the pattern described above: soot and ash that a regen cycle never got hot enough or long enough to burn off on a mixed driving pattern. The cleaning agent breaks the deposits down inside the filter, the filter stays fitted throughout, and once flow through the substrate is restored, the stored fault codes clear and the warning light goes out.
