Why the Crafter 2.0 TDI blocks so often
The CKTB and CKTC engines fitted to the Crafter from 2016 onwards are efficient, capable units. The problem is the work these vans are put to. Crafters dominate courier fleets, distribution rounds, and urban construction sites, and every one of those use cases involves short, stop-start journeys at low speeds.
Diesel particulate filters clean themselves through a process called regeneration. During a regen cycle, exhaust temperatures climb high enough to burn off the accumulated soot inside the filter. That process needs sustained motorway-style driving, typically 20 to 30 minutes at a constant speed above 40 mph. When a Crafter spends its working day doing 10-minute drops around Manchester or idling on a building site, regen cycles either fail to start or cut off before they complete.
Soot builds up. The DPF becomes restricted. Eventually the engine management system detects the blockage and triggers a warning light or limp mode to prevent damage.
The VW Transporter T6 with the 2.0 TDI shares the same vulnerability. If you run a T6 on local trade work or use it as a crew bus on short transfers, you will eventually see the same DPF symptoms as a Crafter operator.
What a mobile chemical flush involves
We do not remove the DPF. Removal is time-consuming, invasive, and unnecessary in the vast majority of cases. Our chemical flush method introduces a high-concentration cleaning solution directly into the DPF while it remains fitted to the vehicle. The solution breaks down the soot and ash deposits that are causing the restriction.
Here is what happens on the day:
One of our technicians arrives at your location, your depot, your home, your site, wherever the van happens to be. We connect to the vehicle and carry out a diagnostic check to confirm the DPF load reading and rule out any other fault codes that need addressing first. We then introduce the cleaning solution and allow it to dwell inside the filter, after which we run a controlled purge cycle to clear the dissolved deposits. A final diagnostic check confirms the DPF load has returned to an acceptable level before we leave.
The full process takes around 90 minutes on a Crafter. There is no need to book the van into a garage or arrange alternative transport for the day.
What the £275 price covers
The fixed price of £275 covers the full mobile chemical flush, travel to your location within our service area, the diagnostic check before and after, the cleaning solution, and the purge process. There are no hidden call-out fees and no charges based on how blocked the filter turns out to be.
If the diagnostic check reveals a fault beyond the DPF itself, a faulty differential pressure sensor, for instance, or a glow plug issue triggering a false DPF reading, we will tell you clearly before proceeding, so you can decide how to handle it.
