Mini DPF cleaning
£275 once, or a dealer bill running into four figures for a Cooper D, Clubman or Countryman filter that was probably never broken. Mobile chemical flush, we come to you, across Greater Manchester. Call 0161 694 7331.
The replacement bill on a Mini
A new DPF from a Mini dealer is not a small bill for what looks like a small car. On the BMW-era B37 1.5 and B47 2.0, fitted from 2014 onward across the Cooper D, Clubman and Countryman, an OEM filter fitted at a dealer typically runs to £1,200 to £1,500 or more once labour is added. Independents can often manage the aftermarket part for £800 to £1,000 fitted, but that's still a four-figure decision for a filter that, in most cases, isn't actually broken.
The honest split: a blocked Mini filter, one simply carrying more soot than the ECU wants to see, responds to a chemical clean at £275. A physically cracked or melted filter doesn't. The two look identical from the driver's seat, warning light, reduced power, sometimes limp mode, which is exactly why a dealer quoting for a new filter without checking which one you've got is worth a second opinion.
Clean, repair, replace or delete
| Option | Typical cost | What it fixes | Road-legal? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean/repair | £275 fixed | Clears a soot blockage | Yes |
| Replacement | £800 to £1,500+ fitted | Needed only if the filter is physically cracked or melted | Yes |
| Delete | Call to discuss | Removes the DPF from the software permanently | No |
Cleaning is the right first call for a Mini filter that's blocked rather than damaged, which covers most of what we see across the Cooper D, Clubman and Countryman range. Replacement only becomes necessary once a filter has physically failed. For the full breakdown, see our replacement cost comparison.
Mini models and engines
Clubman (2015 onward)
F54 Cooper D B37 1.5, Cooper SD B47 2.0. The estate-bodied Mini, sharing its BMW-era engines with the Cooper D and Countryman of the same generation.
Cooper D (2007 onward)
R56 PSA-sourced 1.6 to 2011, then BMW's own N47 1.6/2.0 diesel to 2014, F55/F56 B37 1.5 from 2014. The model we quote for most across the range. The pre-2011 PSA-sourced 1.6 uses an additive-assisted regen system (Eolys), unlike the BMW-built engines that replaced it, none of which use an additive.
Countryman (2010 onward)
R60 PSA-sourced 1.6 to 2011, then BMW's own N47 diesel to 2014, B37/B47 from the 2014 facelift, F60 B37 1.5 and B47 2.0 from 2017. The largest Mini in the range, and the one most likely to be doing family school-run duty.
What happens on the day
We come to the vehicle wherever it's parked, run a diagnostic to confirm the soot load and any stored codes, then introduce the cleaning agent through the DPF's existing service ports. A controlled engine sequence works the agent through the substrate, followed by a differential pressure check to confirm flow has been restored. Codes are cleared and the warning light is off before we leave. The whole visit takes roughly 90 minutes, and the filter never comes off the car.
