Renault models we cover

Renault Trafic

The Trafic is a workhorse van that should, on paper, be well-suited to diesel ownership. It gets plenty of motorway miles, carries loads, and runs hard. The problem is the pattern of actual use. Many Trafic owners operate locally: deliveries within a city, tradespeople driving from site to site, short hops rather than sustained runs.

The Trafic 1.6 dCi and 2.0 dCi use the R9M engine, a unit it shares with the Vauxhall Vivaro and, in earlier form, the Opel Vivaro. The R9M has a known DPF sensitivity, particularly in urban use, and we frequently see Trafics with DPF warnings appearing from around 60,000 to 80,000 miles. At that point the filter has been through enough short cycles that the soot accumulation has outpaced the filter's ability to self-clean.

Renault Master

The Renault Master 2.3 dCi is a larger panel van widely used for courier and delivery work. Multi-drop routes, stopping every few minutes, rarely exceeding 40 mph for any sustained stretch, are precisely the conditions that prevent DPF regeneration from completing. We see significant numbers of Masters from local delivery operators, builders' merchants, and sole traders.

If your Master has a DPF light on and you run it on daily delivery rounds, the cause is almost certainly the driving pattern. The filter has simply never had the opportunity to regen fully.

Renault Kadjar

The Kadjar shares its platform and 1.5 dCi engine with the Nissan Qashqai, and it shares its DPF problems too. The K9K engine is efficient but produces cool exhaust temperatures at low speeds, making passive regeneration unreliable in urban driving. Kadjar owners tend to use the car in exactly the same way as Qashqai owners, as a family crossover on mixed urban and suburban routes, with the same results.

If you have a Kadjar 1.5 dCi with a DPF warning, the same diagnostic and flush process we use on the Qashqai applies here.

Renault Megane

The Megane 1.5 dCi (K9K engine) is a compact diesel popular as a commuter and fleet car. Like most small-displacement diesel hatchbacks, it is vulnerable to DPF blockage when used predominantly on short journeys. The Megane Estate and Megane Coupe diesel variants are covered alongside the standard hatchback.

Other Renault diesel models

If you have a Renault diesel not listed above, Scenic, Grand Scenic, Laguna, or others, get in touch. We work across the range; the models listed above are simply the ones we see most frequently.

How our service works

We come to you. There is no need to arrange a garage appointment, get the car recovered, or plan around a workshop schedule. Here is the process:

The whole process takes around two hours. The price is £275 fixed, the same for vans and cars.

  • We arrive at your home, workplace, or wherever the vehicle is parked.
  • We plug in and run a free diagnostic check, soot load, filter back-pressure, and fault codes.
  • We confirm whether a chemical flush is the appropriate treatment.
  • If it is, we carry out the flush on-site and run a controlled regen cycle to clear the filter.
  • We run a final diagnostic before we leave to verify the filter is reading clean.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Renault Trafic get DPF problems at 60,000 to 80,000 miles?
By that mileage, the DPF has accumulated a significant amount of ash, a byproduct of combustion that cannot be burned off, only mechanically removed or chemically dissolved. On top of that, a van used predominantly in urban delivery work rarely achieves the exhaust temperatures needed for passive regen. The combination of accumulated ash and persistent soot leads to blockage.
Is the Renault Kadjar DPF the same as the Nissan Qashqai DPF?
They use the same K9K 1.5 dCi engine family and similar DPF systems. The symptoms, fault codes (P2002 and P2463), and treatment are the same. If you have read the Qashqai page on this site, the information applies to the Kadjar too.
Can you clean Renault vans as well as cars?
Yes. We cover the full Renault range including the Trafic and Master vans. The chemical flush process is the same regardless of vehicle size, and the price is £275.
My Renault has gone into limp mode. Is it too late to clean the filter?
Not necessarily. Limp mode triggered by a DPF fault usually means the filter is severely blocked but often still intact. Our diagnostic will tell us whether the filter can be cleaned or whether the blockage has progressed to the point of physical damage. In the large majority of cases we see, a chemical flush resolves the limp mode.
Does a DPF clean clear the fault codes?
The codes are stored in the ECU and need to be cleared after the filter is cleaned. We do this as part of the service. After the post-clean diagnostic confirms the filter is reading correctly, we clear the stored codes so the warning light goes out and the car returns to normal operation.
